How messy is your house really? What is an acceptable level of mess?

On any given day if you were to come to my house you would find piles of various items in little "hot spots" near the phone, the dining room table, top of the washer and dryer, my dresser, etc.

I was recently reading an article about cleaning and organizing your home and this article said that the easiest way to keep you home organized is truly to follow that old saying, "a place for everything and everything in its place." It would take me about three hours (without kids around) to clean up this mess and truly put everything in its place.  I have a couple of practical problems with this concept in my home.

Let me list a few..

1. Everytime I leave the house I come home with more stuff, wait... my kids come home with more stuff. Seriously, my kids don't need to be coming home with so much stuff!

2. I don't have room to make places for the stuff I have at this moment in time.

3. I don't have TIME to get rid of the stuff I don't want (there's a ton of it and it multiplies daily).

So there is my confession, my sink is perpetually filled with dishes, my dresser is perpetually covered with clothing, and I am not sitting around all day people. I tried to put my clothes away the other day thinking I would stay on top of things. It was laundry day. I locked my 19 month old in the Master Bedroom with me so he couldn't get into trouble... while in there I removed a cough drop from his mouth (from dh bedside drawer, btw he was mad that he didn't have a cough drop when he discovered that it was his last one), removed the vaccuum cleaner cord from between his teeth, and removed the soft scrub container from his chubby little mits! Guess things were'nt in there... ummm... places.

Well my dh just got home and discovered that my ds has gum in his hair, I best be off!!! Now it's your turn confess your mess...
